Executive Director Régine M. Roumain announces that Haiti Cultural Exchange is co-sponsoring the Daughters of Anacaona Writing Project, a creative writing and leadership workshop, founded by Ibi Zoboi. Classes meet Saturdays, from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm, from October 13 – November 10, 2012. They will be held at the YWCA of Brooklyn, located at 30 Third Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.
Description: For girls of ages 9 through 17, the Daughters of Anacaona Writing Project aims to cultivate empowerment, creativity, cultural awareness, community service, and college and career readiness in primarily Haitian immigrant and first generation teen girls residing in Brooklyn, New York. The 5-session workshops will culminate in a yearly publication of an anthology including the participants’ best work and a reading for invited family, friends, teachers, and community members.
